#610: Gods and Monster Movies

July 21, 2011

Notes from the Manager

Related Strips: #381: Flash Forward

The movie Jason and Kurt are watching is The Bride of Frankenstein, directed by James Whale (The Invisible Man, Frankenstein). Those of you who aren't horribly disappointed by Jason's smoking habit will find the rest of the Bride scene funny…

Gods and Monsters is a fictional (or fictionalized, at least) 1998 film about Whale, written and directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls and, yes, Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and 2), starring Ian McKellen as the filmmaker and Brendan Fraser as a handsome dumbass. Typecasting, yes. Anyway, it is a fantastic movie. The clip our boys are watching pops up in Gods and Monsters, which is why Jason brought it up. (Not that that's a terribly important point.)

So there you have it; after last week's self-contained movie joke, this is the real starting point for Book 6. I don't want to talk too much about my plans for this book, but I think this will be a lot of fun…
